The Delhi government will inaugurate 81 new Ayushman Arogya Mandirs on Wednesday, marking the fifth phase of the programme’s expansion and significantly strengthening neighbourhood-level primary healthcare across the capital.

Boost to Accessible and Preventive Healthcare

As reported by DD India, Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said the expansion will greatly enhance access to affordable and preventive healthcare services for residents. With the addition of these centres, the total number of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in Delhi will increase to 319.

“At present, 238 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are operational. Following tomorrow’s inauguration, the number of functioning centres will rise to 319 across the national capital,” the Minister said.

Progress Towards Long-Term Healthcare Goals

Minister Singh added that the expansion aligns with Delhi’s long-term primary healthcare roadmap. “With this addition, Delhi is steadily moving towards establishing more than 1,100 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, as envisioned under the capital’s comprehensive healthcare plan,” he noted.

He further stated that the initiative reflects the Delhi government’s commitment to delivering free, accessible, and dignified primary healthcare close to every household. The programme is being implemented under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, in line with the national vision of ‘Healthcare for All’.

Comprehensive Services at the Neighbourhood Level

Each Ayushman Arogya Mandir will provide a wide range of free services, including doctor consultations, essential medicines, and diagnostic tests. In addition, the centres will offer screening for diabetes, hypertension, and cancer, along with maternal and child healthcare, immunisation support, growth monitoring, lifestyle counselling, and mental health services.

Preventive health initiatives such as yoga sessions and nutrition guidance will also form a core component of services offered at these facilities.

Reducing Burden on Major Hospitals

According to the Health Minister, the expansion of neighbourhood-level centres will significantly reduce pressure on large hospitals. “These facilities will ensure timely care for women, senior citizens, and low-income families without the need for long travel or extended waiting times,” he said.

Strengthening Coverage Under Ayushman Bharat Schemes

Alongside the expansion of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, Delhi continues to enhance coverage under the Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) and the Ayushman Bharat–Vaya Vandana Yojana (AB-VVY).

“As of January 13, 2026, Delhi has issued a total of 6,91,530 health cards under PM-JAY and VVY combined, including 2,65,895 cards under the Vaya Vandana Yojana,” Minister Singh said.

Expanding Network of Empanelled Hospitals

To ensure seamless access to secondary and tertiary care, Delhi has empanelled 189 hospitals across the city. This network includes 138 private hospitals, 41 Delhi government hospitals, and 10 Central government hospitals.

“These empanelled institutions provide cashless treatment, ensuring that financially vulnerable families can access life-saving care without financial barriers,” the Health Minister added.
