Delhi government plans to develop a dedicated digital portal to strengthen and regulate the city’s medical tourism sector. To begin with, the platform will offer end-to-end services such as hospital and specialist matching, standardised treatment packages, real-time tracking, multilingual assistance, and grievance redressal.
Implementation Through DTTDC
Moreover, the project—titled Delhi Medical and Wellness Tourism (DMWT)—will be implemented by the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC). The government has already floated a Request for Proposal (RFP) to appoint an agency responsible for designing, operating, and maintaining the platform for an initial period of 10 years.
As per Hindustan Times, Hindustan Times reported that the agency will also handle empanelment of hospitals, doctors, diagnostic centres, AYUSH facilities, and other service providers after verifying compliance. Hindustan Times report
Large Patient Inflow and System Gaps
In addition, officials noted that the capital already attracts over three million patients annually. However, the sector remains fragmented, with inconsistent services and the presence of unauthorised intermediaries affecting patient experience.
Integrated Services and Global Positioning
Consequently, the portal will integrate hospital systems, immigration processes, payment gateways, and national health tourism databases. It will also provide visa coordination, travel support, accommodation assistance, and global promotional campaigns.
Safety Concerns and Policy Push
Finally, the initiative follows recent concerns over unregulated medical stay facilities, including a fire incident in Hauz Rani that highlighted regulatory gaps. The government aims to position Delhi as a global medical hub through a more structured and transparent system.
