The Delhi government announced plans to set up 1,100 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs across the city, of which 166 are already operational. These centres aim to bring primary healthcare closer to communities.

Expansion of Major Hospitals

Alongside this initiative, five major hospital expansion projects will be completed this month. The expansions will add 1,300 new beds, new OPDs, and advanced medical equipment, significantly strengthening the city’s healthcare infrastructure.

Digital Healthcare Integration

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the government is integrating Delhi’s hospitals into the Hospital Information Management System (HIMS). Through this platform, patients will book appointments online, access digital health records, and receive unique health IDs. She also announced that the government will centralise medicine procurement to improve transparency and efficiency.

Redevelopment of Pandemic-Era Projects

Government officials confirmed that they will redevelop seven ongoing hospital projects in Kirari, Sultanpuri, Sarita Vihar, Shalimar Bagh, Raghubir Nagar, Geeta Colony, and Dilshad Garden into super-specialty ICU centres. Each facility will provide critical care, including cancer treatment, high-risk deliveries, and organ transplants. The government initiated these projects during the Covid-19 pandemic, but progress remained uneven until now.

Health Schemes for Citizens

Highlighting her government’s initiatives, Gupta said the Ayushman Bharat scheme was implemented in Delhi immediately after her government took office. She criticised the previous administration for “depriving Delhi residents” of its benefits. So far, 4.5 lakh people have enrolled and begun receiving treatment. Additionally, under the Vaya Vandan Yojana, 2.2 lakh citizens above 70 years of age have received free treatment of up to ₹10 lakh each.

Strengthening Hospital Resources

To address equipment shortages, the government has installed 150 dialysis machines, 20 CT scan machines, and 12 MRI machines. Moreover, medical superintendents have been appointed in 28 hospitals, and 1,500 nurses have received permanent appointments.

Future-Ready Healthcare Network

As reported by TOI, the CM emphasised that Delhi’s greatest asset is the health of its people. She stated that the government’s efforts in healthcare, sports, and youth welfare would empower citizens and benefit generations to come.

Construction of New Health Facilities

Seven ICU-bedded hospitals are under construction in Shalimar Bagh, Kirari, Sultanpuri, Sarita Vihar, Raghubir Nagar, and within the premises of Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalaya in Geeta Colony and GTB Hospital in Dilshad Garden. In addition, the government is building four multi-specialty general hospitals in Jwalapuri, Madipur, Hastsal, and Siraspur. It sanctioned these 11 facilities after the Covid-19 outbreak, began constructing the general hospitals between September and November 2020, and approved the ICU projects in September 2021.
