Jitendra Singh presented awards to 26 young medical professionals from across India in recognition of their excellence in various medical specialities. The awards were given to doctors who have demonstrated outstanding work in fields such as Oncology, Paediatrics, Endocrinology, Orthopaedics, and Emergency Medicine.
While addressing the event, the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, Earth Sciences, and Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office highlighted the importance of recognising young medical talent early in their careers.
Encouraging Young Doctors Early in Their Careers
Dr. Singh congratulated the media house that organised the event and appreciated its decision to honour doctors who are at the beginning of their professional journeys. According to him, receiving recognition at this stage provides a significant motivational boost and holds greater meaning than awards presented later in a career.
He emphasised that early recognition encourages young doctors to pursue excellence and remain committed to improving healthcare services in the country.
Building the Future of Healthcare
As reported by pib.gov.in, the minister stressed that recognising medical professionals during their formative years helps strengthen the future of India’s healthcare system. When young doctors receive encouragement early on, they are more likely to continue developing their skills and expanding their knowledge.
Moreover, in a rapidly evolving medical landscape, continuous learning and adaptation have become essential for medical professionals.
Technology and Artificial Intelligence Transforming Medicine
During his address, Dr. Singh also discussed the transformation taking place in the healthcare sector. With the emergence of advanced technologies and artificial intelligence, the practice of medicine is undergoing a major shift.
Although technology has significantly improved diagnostic accuracy and treatment options, he pointed out that the role of a doctor remains irreplaceable. Clinical experience, judgement, and intuition continue to play a crucial role in patient care.
Changing Nature of Medical Education and Practice
Reflecting on his decades of observing developments in medical science, the minister noted that medical education in earlier times often focused on studying specific diseases—such as syphilis or diabetes—to understand broader aspects of medicine.
However, the scope of modern medicine has expanded dramatically. Today, the field includes numerous specialisations and innovative treatment approaches. At the same time, artificial intelligence increasingly supports conventional learning and medical decision-making.
Importance of Specialisation and Continuous Learning
Dr. Singh further noted that rapid technological advancements, emerging diseases, and evolving healthcare demands have made the medical field more complex than ever before.
In this environment, he advised young doctors to focus on a specific area of medical expertise while continuously updating their knowledge. Since medical science evolves rapidly, regular learning and skill development are essential for staying relevant and effective in clinical practice.
Healthcare Challenges in the Post-COVID Era
The minister also highlighted the changing healthcare landscape following the COVID-19 pandemic. He explained that healthcare systems today face a dual challenge: managing both communicable diseases and the growing burden of lifestyle-related illnesses.
As a result, specialised expertise and lifelong learning have become even more critical for medical professionals.
Confidence in the Next Generation of Doctors
Concluding his address, Dr. Jitendra Singh expressed confidence in the young doctors who were honoured at the conclave. He said many of them would go on to achieve significant milestones in their careers.
He also noted that some of these emerging professionals may one day return to receive lifetime achievement awards for their lasting contributions to the medical profession and to society.
