A 16-year-old intermediate student and aspiring cricketer from Malakpet, Hyderabad, has received a second chance at life after undergoing a successful pre-emptive kidney transplant at the Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology (AINU). His father, Khaja Asimuddin, donated his kidney to help his son avoid long-term dialysis.
The teenager, who dreams of returning to the cricket field, was born with a congenital urinary bladder abnormality that caused severe urinary reflux. Over time, the condition damaged his kidneys, affected his growth and eventually progressed to end-stage renal disease (ESRD).
Successful Pre-Emptive Transplant
Doctors recommended a pre-emptive transplant before prolonged dialysis became necessary. Following comprehensive medical evaluation and donor matching, his father volunteered to donate his kidney.
The transplant was successfully performed on June 17, 2026, and the patient was discharged on June 25 after a smooth recovery.
As per the press release, his father said, “Donating my kidney was a natural choice to save my son,” adding that he hoped to see him return to his studies and cricket.
Doctors Stress Early Intervention
Dr. Srikanth Gundlapalli, Senior Consultant Nephrologist and Transplant Physician, AINU Banjara Hills, said pre-emptive transplantation can offer children and adolescents with ESRD better opportunities for normal growth, longevity and quality of life.
Dr. Mallikarjuna C, Managing Director, Chief Consultant Urologist and Robotic Surgeon, AINU, also highlighted the importance of evaluating donors and planning transplantation before dialysis becomes necessary.
The teenager is currently recovering at home while focusing on his health and studies. Once medically cleared, he hopes to resume college and eventually return to the cricket pitch.
