Fortis Escorts Hospital, Faridabad, has launched the city’s first dedicated Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders Clinic, offering specialised care for Parkinson’s disease, tremors, dystonia and other movement disorders.
The clinic will operate every Friday from 2 PM to 4 PM, providing early diagnosis, multidisciplinary evaluation, personalised treatment, Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) assessment and programming, neurorehabilitation and long-term care.
Advanced DBS Treatment
The launch follows the successful treatment of a 62-year-old woman with advanced Parkinson’s disease. After medication became less effective, a multidisciplinary team led by Dr. (Prof) Vinit Banga and Dr. Neha Pandita performed a five-hour DBS surgery. The patient showed immediate improvement in stiffness and involuntary movements and was discharged in stable condition.
Focus on Early Intervention
As per the press release, timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment can help improve outcomes for patients with neurological disorders. Dr. Vinit Banga, Director and Head, Neurology, said early Parkinson’s symptoms are often mistaken for normal ageing, delaying diagnosis and treatment.
The clinic will also offer botulinum toxin injections, neurorehabilitation, counselling and complementary programmes such as music, dance and yoga.
Dr. Kamal Verma, Director, Neurosurgery, highlighted DBS as an important option for patients whose symptoms no longer respond adequately to medication, while Dr. Abhishek Sharma, Facility Director, said the clinic will strengthen access to specialised neurocare in Faridabad and neighbouring areas.
