Fresenius Medical Care, a global leader in products and services for people with renal diseases, has successfully concluded its first Dialysis Technician Certification Training Programme in India. The programme was conducted in collaboration with Epitome Kidney Urology Institute & Lions Hospital, New Delhi, under Fresenius Medical Care’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) initiative.
As per the press release, this one-day structured training programme marked an important step towards strengthening dialysis care delivery in India. Specifically, it addressed the growing need for formal, practice-oriented skill development for dialysis technicians, who play a crucial role in patient safety and the daily functioning of dialysis units.
Programme Focuses on Practical Skills and Best Practices
The programme was designed to bridge existing skill gaps by emphasising real-world clinical application beyond conventional classroom learning.
Accordingly, the curriculum covered several critical areas, including:
- Infection control in dialysis units
- Dialysis adequacy and monitoring
- Advanced dialysis therapies
- Alarm management during dialysis
- Handling dialysis-related complications
More than 200 dialysis professionals participated in the programme. Through interactive sessions and expert-led discussions, they gained practical insights that can be directly applied in everyday clinical practice.
Exposure to Advanced Dialysis Infrastructure
In addition to classroom learning, participants visited Epitome Hospital’s dialysis unit to observe advanced clinical infrastructure.
During the visit, they explored several key technologies, including:
- Haemodiafiltration (HDF)-enabled dialysis machines
- A medical-grade water treatment system
- Digitised patient data reporting systems
As the knowledge partner, Fresenius Medical Care India collaborated closely with the clinical leadership at Epitome Hospital to design and deliver the programme.
Epitome Hospital’s Leadership in Advanced Dialysis Care
Fresenius Medical Care selected Epitome Kidney Urology Institute & Lions Hospital as its partner for the initiative because of its recognised leadership in advanced dialysis care.
The hospital actively uses HDF kidney replacement therapy, which has been associated with improved patient outcomes. Furthermore, it is the first dialysis unit in India to fully digitise dialysis patient data using the Therapy Data Monitoring System (TDMS). This system enables real-time monitoring and supports the consistent application of best clinical practices.
The programme was led by Dr. Vijay Kher, Chairman – Nephrology & Kidney Transplant, and Dr. Ajay Kher, Medical Director & Nephrologist.
Experts Highlight the Importance of Skill Development
Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Vijay Kher said,
“We are proud to lead this structured training programme for dialysis professionals. It has been designed by healthcare professionals, for healthcare professionals, with a clear focus on advancing kidney care through evidence-based practice, shared knowledge, and hands-on learning.”
Similarly, Dr. Ajay Kher emphasised the importance of building a skilled workforce.
“Our focus has always been on delivering comprehensive, patient-centric care. This programme is another step towards building a skilled dialysis workforce that can further enable patient-centric care and improve dialysis outcomes.”
Collaboration Supports Future-Ready Dialysis Care
Highlighting the collaborative effort, Dr. Tarun Kaushik, Medical Director, Fresenius Medical Care India, said that advancing clinical expertise remains central to improving dialysis care.
“At Fresenius Medical Care, we believe that advancing clinical expertise is as critical as technological innovation. This collaboration allowed us to co-create a curriculum that is clinically relevant, practical, and future-ready, helping technicians deliver consistently high standards of dialysis care.”
Commitment to Improving Patient Outcomes
Speaking about the broader impact of the initiative, Mr. Bhaskar Guha, Managing Director – South Asia, Fresenius Medical Care, noted that such partnerships help strengthen dialysis care systems.
“This Centre of Excellence collaboration with Epitome Hospital reflects our commitment to improving access to better dialysis care. By empowering technicians with best practices in dialysis therapy, we are directly contributing to improved patient safety, operational efficiency, and better health outcomes, starting with a high-impact geography like Delhi.”
Growing Need for Structured Training in Dialysis Care
