KIMS Hospitals, Mahadevapura, in collaboration with Boston Scientific, has launched Illumina 3D™, an image-guided programming platform designed to improve precision and personalisation in Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS). With this launch, KIMS Hospitals becomes the first hospital in India to introduce Illumina 3D™ technology, marking a significant step towards more personalised treatment for patients with complex movement disorders.

Advanced Technology for Personalised DBS

Illumina 3D™ combines advanced medical imaging with intelligent algorithms to support clinicians in developing customised DBS stimulation programmes. Deep Brain Stimulation is used to manage movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease. However, achieving optimal results often requires careful programming of stimulation settings for each patient. By providing an image-guided view of stimulation and its relationship with targeted brain structures, the technology is designed to help clinicians refine DBS programming with greater precision.

Improving Care for Movement Disorders

The introduction of Illumina 3D™ could help strengthen personalised neurological care by enabling clinicians to tailor stimulation programmes to individual patient needs. Moreover, the technology supports a more data-driven approach to DBS programming, potentially helping specialists optimise therapy for patients whose symptoms can be complex or difficult to manage. As movement disorders continue to affect patients worldwide, advances in neuromodulation and image-guided treatment could play an increasingly important role in improving patient care.

KIMS Hospitals Strengthens Neurological Care

The launch brought together senior clinical leadership from KIMS Hospitals, including Dr Guruprasad Hosurkar, Director & Lead Consultant in Neurology and Head of the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Programme, and Dr Raghuram Gopalakrishnan, Director & Senior Consultant and Head of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery. Their expertise in neurology, movement disorders and functional neurosurgery supports the hospital’s efforts to expand advanced treatment options for patients requiring specialised neurological care.

A Step Towards Advanced DBS Treatment in India

The introduction of Illumina 3D™ represents another milestone in KIMS Hospitals’ efforts to bring advanced neurological technologies to India. By combining advanced imaging, intelligent algorithms and personalised DBS programming, the hospital aims to strengthen treatment capabilities for patients with Parkinson’s disease and other complex movement disorders. As per the press release, the technology’s introduction also highlights the growing role of precision and personalised approaches in neurological treatment and Deep Brain Stimulation.
