NHRC Urged to Probe Kota Maternal Deaths Linked to Alleged Faulty Oxytocin

A civil rights organisation has urged the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to investigate the deaths of five women following childbirth at government hospitals in Kota, Rajasthan. The group has also sought compensation for the affected families and accountability for those responsible.

Demand for Independent Probe

The organisation has requested an independent inquiry into the incident. It has further called for free lifelong medical treatment and rehabilitation for women who survived but continue to face serious health complications.

Concerns Over Drug Quality

As reported by The Economic Times, laboratory tests allegedly found that the oxytocin injections administered to the women contained no active pharmaceutical ingredient. The organisation claims this points to possible violations in drug manufacturing, quality control, and regulatory oversight.

Call for Accountability

The rights group has asked the NHRC to treat the matter as a human rights issue. It has urged authorities to ensure a transparent investigation, fix accountability, strengthen drug quality monitoring, and improve patient safety to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
