Strategic Collaboration to Advance Early-Stage Innovation
Syngene International, a global contract research, development, and manufacturing organization (CRDMO), has entered into a strategic collaboration with Johns Hopkins University, Maryland, USA. Through this partnership, both institutions will advance early-stage drug discovery programs and platform technologies emerging from Johns Hopkins’ research laboratories.
By combining academic innovation with industry expertise, the collaboration aims to translate cutting-edge scientific discoveries into viable therapeutic candidates more efficiently.
Leveraging the Syngene SynVent™ Platform
To deliver this initiative, Syngene will deploy its fully integrated drug discovery and development platform, Syngene SynVent™. This comprehensive platform spans discovery biology, medicinal and synthetic chemistry, drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics (DMPK), toxicology, and early development.
In addition, Syngene will utilize its Connector model to bridge high-potential early-stage assets and technology platforms with strategic investors and downstream partners. As a result, the model will facilitate research sponsorship and secure licensing options for intellectual property generated through the collaboration.
Leadership Perspectives on the Collaboration
As per the press release, Kenneth Barr, Senior Vice President and Head of Strategic Collaborations at Syngene International, emphasized the significance of the partnership. “We are delighted to work with a renowned institution like Johns Hopkins. We are uniquely positioned to translate pioneering research into credible therapeutic candidates. Our goal is to significantly compress the timeline required for high-potential programs to reach clinical relevance, thereby creating a faster and more efficient pipeline of new medicines,” he said.
Similarly, Paul Nkansah, Senior Director of Corporate Partnerships at Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures, highlighted the innovative nature of the model. He noted that the collaboration can effectively connect discoveries from Johns Hopkins laboratories with Syngene’s drug discovery capabilities, as well as pharmaceutical and biotech partners and investors. Consequently, this integrated approach will accelerate groundbreaking innovations and transform promising science into credible development programs that could ultimately deliver new treatment options for patients.
