Tamil Nadu to Inaugurate ₹360-Crore Healthcare Infrastructure on February 6

Highlighting the Tamil Nadu government’s continued focus on strengthening public healthcare, Health Minister Ma. Subramanian announced that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will inaugurate health department buildings worth ₹360 crore across the state on February 6.

New Hospitals, PHCs and Research Centres to Be Opened

In a statement, the minister said the upcoming inaugurations include district headquarters hospitals, primary health centres (PHCs), research facilities, and a microbiological research centre at Guindy. Together, these new facilities are expected to significantly expand the reach of government healthcare services and improve the overall quality of patient care.

Tamil Nadu Achieves National First in Preventive Healthcare

Meanwhile, Subramanian noted that Tamil Nadu achieved a national first in preventive healthcare by administering the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to a 14-year-old girl. He said the initiative reflects the state government’s strong commitment to women’s health and cancer prevention through early intervention.

Nalam Kaakkum Stalin Scheme Benefits Over 14 Lakh People

Turning to healthcare outreach, the minister detailed the progress of the Nalam Kaakkum Stalin scheme. Of the 1,256 medical camps planned across the state, authorities have already conducted 1,076 camps. He added that the remaining camps will be completed before the end of February, benefiting more communities.

So far, 14.16 lakh people have received medical services under the scheme, he said.

Medical Infrastructure Strengthened Across Districts

Emphasising the government’s infrastructure push, Subramanian said Tamil Nadu’s medical facilities have seen significant strengthening since the DMK government assumed office. Currently, 17 districts have fully functional headquarters government hospitals.

In addition, the state has allocated ₹1,078 crore to establish and upgrade headquarters government hospitals in 19 more districts, further expanding access to secondary and tertiary care.

New Tiruchy Government Hospital Building Ready

As reported by zeenews.india, referring specifically to Tiruchirappalli, the minister said a new building for the Tiruchy Government Hospital, constructed at a cost of ₹135 crore, has been completed. He added that the facility will be opened for public use within the next three weeks.

Cancer Screening Centres to Expand Beyond Major Cities

Further strengthening cancer care, Subramanian announced that cancer screening centres will be established in Tiruchirappalli, similar to those already functioning in Chennai, Madurai and Thanjavur.

He said these centres will help detect cancer at an early stage and ensure timely treatment, thereby reducing cancer-related deaths.

Focus on Accessible and Preventive Healthcare

Reiterating the government’s priorities, the Health Minister said Tamil Nadu will continue to focus on accessible, affordable and high-quality healthcare for all sections of society. He added that special emphasis will remain on preventive care and the strengthening of public health services across the state.
