In today’s healthcare system, doctors and nurses often serve as the first point of contact for vulnerable women and children. Therefore, sensitising healthcare workers about legal safeguards related to abuse, sexual offences, child marriage, and workplace harassment has become essential.

With this objective, Aakash Healthcare Super Speciality Hospital organised a Legal Awareness Seminar to educate and empower its staff members on critical legal responsibilities and protective frameworks.

Collaboration Under National Child Protection Initiative

As per the press release, the hospital conducted the programme under the NALSA ASHA Project in collaboration with the South West District Legal Services Authority (SW-DLSA), Dwarka Courts, Delhi. Additionally, the initiative formed part of the ongoing 100-day “Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat” campaign, which promotes child protection and women’s safety across the country.

Hospital Leadership Emphasises Responsibility Beyond Treatment

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Aashish Chaudhry, Managing Director of Aakash Healthcare, stressed that a hospital’s role extends beyond clinical care. He stated that healthcare institutions must actively uphold safety, dignity, and awareness within their communities.

Furthermore, he highlighted that when staff members understand legal provisions, they become better equipped to protect vulnerable patients and foster a safe environment. According to him, awareness marks the first and most crucial step toward prevention.

Practical Guidance on Key Legal Provisions

Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Medical Superintendent, explained that the seminar aimed to provide hospital staff with practical knowledge of important laws so they can respond effectively in cases involving abuse, exploitation, or harassment.

The session included discussions on the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), and the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act (POSH Act, 2013).

Legal experts Advocate Amita Sharma, Advocate Kajal Saini, and Ms Anshulika Singh from SW-DLSA explained these laws in simple and practical terms. They also guided participants on the correct procedures to follow in sensitive and high-risk situations.

Interactive Session Encourages Responsible Action

Mr Vikas Chawla, Group Head – HR and Operations at Aakash Healthcare, noted that the session remained highly interactive. Staff members actively asked questions and discussed real-life scenarios to better understand their responsibilities.
