The Universal Health Code, described as the world’s first comprehensive “owner’s manual” for the human body, was launched today in a special ceremony. Spanning nearly 300 pages, the book brings together the collective wisdom of 50 leading medical experts from diverse specialisations—all members of the 1984 batch of Madras Medical College.

First Copies Released by Eminent Leaders

Ravi Pachamuthu, Chairman of SRM Group, and Mohamed Rela, Chairman of Rela Hospital, formally released the first copies of the book.

Former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik received the copies in the presence of Dr. Vijay C. Bose, Joint Director and Senior Consultant, who compiled the book, along with the team from Wings Publications.

An Integrated Approach to Understanding Health

Unlike conventional health awareness books that offer compartmentalised or condition-specific advice, The Universal Health Code adopts a unified and integrated approach. Instead of prescribing rigid recommendations, the book explains the inner workings of the entire human body in a clear and connected manner.

By presenting health information like a user manual, the authors empower readers to make informed decisions about food, lifestyle, and preventive care. Moreover, the book uses rich illustrations and simple, layperson-friendly language to ensure clarity and accessibility.

A Unified Vision for Public Health Awareness

Speaking at the launch, Ravi Pachamuthu congratulated the authors, particularly Dr. Bose, for compiling what he described as a universal manual for the human body. He noted that, for the first time, readers have access to a holistic guide that avoids fragmented and sometimes contradictory advice across medical specialties.

He further praised the 1984 batchmates of Madras Medical College for dedicating their time and expertise—despite demanding professional schedules—to promote public awareness and help curb lifestyle diseases in society’s best interest.

Addressing the Growing Burden of Lifestyle Diseases

Dr. Vijay C. Bose shared that the book took five years to complete and became possible because of the unwavering commitment of his batchmates. He explained that the rising burden of lifestyle diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease—especially in India—motivated the initiative.

He pointed out that many existing health books provide silo-based guidance, often leaving the public confused. Therefore, the team designed this book around the concept of an owner’s manual, enabling readers to understand how their bodies function and make informed lifestyle choices.

According to him, being disease-free differs significantly from achieving optimal health. Consequently, the book aims to guide individuals toward a higher and more sustainable standard of well-being.

Thought Leadership on Strengthening Public Health

As per the press release, the launch event also featured insightful speeches from the chief guests on tackling lifestyle diseases and strengthening public health systems. Additionally, contributing authors shared perspectives that reinforced the importance of informed, holistic health awareness.

Through this collaborative effort, The Universal Health Code positions itself as a comprehensive and empowering guide designed to help individuals better understand their bodies and take proactive charge of their health.
