Hectic schedules, erratic lifestyles, and constant stress have made young corporate professionals more vulnerable to pre-diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension, heart disease, and fatty liver. Timely detection and intervention are crucial to prevent severe complications and long-term health problems. Experts recommend regular screening and health check-ups for this group.

Impact of Lifestyle on Metabolic Health

Today’s professionals often skip meals, rely on fast food, and work under sustained pressure.
“Sedentary office jobs, long working hours, and irregular sleep cycles disrupt metabolism. Regular consumption of processed foods, sugary drinks, and caffeine, along with smoking or alcohol use, significantly raises the risk of early-onset metabolic and lifestyle disorders,” experts say.

These combined factors make young professionals highly susceptible to lifestyle-related conditions, including pre-diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension, heart disease, and fatty liver.

Silent Nature of Lifestyle Disorders

Many lifestyle disorders progress silently for months or even years before showing noticeable symptoms.

“Diabetes may initially present as fatigue, increased thirst, or frequent urination, whereas high cholesterol rarely shows obvious symptoms but contributes silently to heart disease. Hypertension can cause headaches, dizziness, or vision issues, and fatty liver may lead to abdominal discomfort or heaviness,” explained Dr. Upasana Garg, Regional Technical Chief, Apollo Diagnostics, Mumbai.

She warned that if left untreated, these conditions can advance to type 2 diabetes, heart attacks, strokes, and liver damage.

Importance of Early Screening

As per the press release, Dr. Upasana highlighted that nearly 50% of young corporate professionals are at risk of developing lifestyle-related disorders.
“Corporate professionals, especially those between 25-45 years, should undergo at least annual health check-ups to detect risks early. Early detection is key to managing these conditions,” she stressed.

She recommended a comprehensive set of tests:

  • Fasting blood sugar and HbA1c for pre-diabetes
  • Lipid profile for cholesterol
  • Blood pressure monitoring for hypertension
  • ECG, echocardiogram, and hs-CRP for heart health
  • Liver function tests and ultrasound for fatty liver

“These simple screenings give a clear picture of health and allow timely interventions,” she added.

Preventive Measures for a Healthier Lifestyle

In addition to regular testing, Dr. Upasana advised adopting healthy habits. These include eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, reducing stress, and avoiding smoking or alcohol. “Short breaks, walking, stretching, mindful eating, and proper sleep play a key role in preventing disease progression,” she said.

Growing Incidence of Warning Signs

Approximately 40% of young professionals already show signs of lifestyle disorders such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar levels, or fatty liver. Four out of ten individuals report symptoms like fatigue, frequent headaches, dizziness, and unexplained weight gain every month.

“These health issues are driven by chronic stress, work pressure, tight deadlines, and prolonged sedentary hours,” said Dr. Nimitt Nagda, Internal Medicine Expert, Zynova Shalby Hospital, Mumbai.

He urged professionals to follow a holistic approach:

  • Eat balanced, home-cooked meals
  • Exercise regularly
  • Manage stress through yoga and meditation
  • Avoid processed foods, smoking, and excessive alcohol
  • Follow medical advice and prescribed treatments

“Staying active, eating right, and de-stressing regularly can go a long way in keeping lifestyle disorders under control,” Dr. Nagda concluded.
