Delhi Launches Special Drug Inspection Drive; 200+ Samples Sent for Testing

The Drugs Control Department on Monday carried out a special inspection drive at Bhagirath Place, collecting 204 samples of syrups, medicines and surgical items for laboratory testing, officials said.

Licence Violations Detected During Inspection

During the drive, officials booked a shop owner for selling medical devices and surgical items without a valid licence. The department sent all collected samples for testing and stated that it would take appropriate action based on the laboratory results.

Multiple Wholesale Dealers Found in Violation

According to an official statement, departmental teams inspected 27 wholesale drug dealers during the operation. Subsequently, officials found more than 10 firms violating provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and Rules. As a result, the department initiated legal action against the erring firms.

Follow-Up to Joint Raid on Counterfeit Medicines

As reported by Tribune India, the inspection drive followed a recent joint operation conducted by the Drugs Control Department and the Cyber Cell of the Delhi Police Crime Branch at a drug trading facility in Teliwara, Sadar Bazar. During the late-night raid, officials seized a large quantity of counterfeit and spurious medicines, including anti-fungal creams.

Unlicensed Facility and Fake Branded Drugs Seized

Officials revealed that the facility was operating without a valid drug licence. Moreover, the person in charge failed to produce purchase or sale records. Physical verification further exposed large stocks of fake branded topical formulations stored for sale and distribution.

Interstate and Cross-Border Supply Under Probe

Preliminary investigations indicated that the counterfeit medicines were being supplied to nearby states and neighbouring countries. Consequently, the Drugs Control Departments of the concerned states were informed and urged to maintain heightened vigilance.

Government Reaffirms Crackdown on Illegal Drug Trade

Reiterating the government’s commitment, Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Singh said enforcement drives would continue across the city to curb the sale of spurious, substandard and unlicensed medicines and medical devices.
