HOSMAC Launches Urban Health Data Platform to Drive Smarter Healthcare Planning

HOSMAC, has launched the Urban Health Data Platform (UHDP), a research-driven digital platform that helps healthcare stakeholders better understand India’s healthcare infrastructure through interactive mapping and analytics.

Built on years of research, data validation, and computational expertise, the beta version enables users to map hospitals by ownership and location while generating insights that support healthcare planning, policy formulation, research, and investment decisions.

Addressing India’s Healthcare Data Gap

Healthcare planning in India has often been limited by fragmented and scattered data. To address this challenge, HOSMAC developed the Urban Health Data Platform to consolidate validated healthcare datasets into a single interactive platform. Instead of merely storing information, the platform visualises and analyses healthcare infrastructure, allowing users to filter, compare, and interpret data across regions.

Beta Version Focuses on Cancer Care

The beta version maps nearly 700 government, trust-owned, and private cancer hospitals across India. In addition to locating facilities, it analyses patient catchment areas based on travel distance and road connectivity, helping identify both well-served and underserved regions. Users can also access demographic and socio-economic insights, including population data, hospital ownership patterns, and regional healthcare coverage to support evidence-based planning.

As per the press release, the platform also allows users to simulate infrastructure planning by virtually adding a proposed hospital and instantly assessing its impact on healthcare accessibility and patient catchment areas. For example, analysis of Maharashtra’s Nanded region suggests that establishing a government cancer hospital could significantly improve access for underserved populations currently travelling more than 200 kilometres for treatment while easing pressure on neighbouring facilities.

Comparative Insights Across Cities

The platform also provides comparative analysis of major metropolitan regions. Preliminary findings indicate that Kolkata has one of the largest cancer care catchments by population, suggesting that many patients travel long distances for treatment. In contrast, Chennai has a relatively compact catchment supported by a well-distributed cancer care network. Meanwhile, Mumbai and Delhi benefit from surrounding satellite cities that strengthen regional healthcare accessibility.

Leadership Perspective

Commenting on the launch, Dr. Vivek Desai, Founder and Managing Director of HOSMAC, said, “The Urban Health Data Platform reflects our commitment to democratising healthcare intelligence and empowering stakeholders with meaningful, research-backed insights. India requires data-driven healthcare planning now more than ever. By making validated healthcare information accessible through an interactive platform, we hope to support better investment decisions, stronger healthcare delivery systems, and more equitable access to care.”

Future Roadmap

HOSMAC plans to expand the Urban Health Data Platform by adding new healthcare datasets, hospital typologies, and advanced analytical capabilities. Future versions will include variables such as hospital capacity, affordability, medical equipment, treatment costs, demographic trends, government empanelment, and care pathways, creating a more comprehensive decision-support platform for India’s evolving healthcare ecosystem.

Designed for hospital owners, healthcare administrators, consultants, policymakers, researchers, investors, and public health professionals, the Urban Health Data Platform reinforces HOSMAC’s commitment to advancing healthcare through research, innovation, and data-driven planning.
