More than 50 babies, accompanied by their parents and hospital staff, participated. Creating Awareness Through Shared Experiences
The “Tiny Miracles” event served as a platform for parents and clinicians to share stories, build awareness, and express appreciation to the healthcare professionals dedicated to neonatal care. Expert pediatricians and neonatologists conducted sessions covering essential topics such as premature baby care, parental guidance, and the significance of regular follow-ups.
To further inspire attendees, organizers presented a short video montage titled “From NICU to Nursery,” featuring heartwarming NICU success stories. The event also included the symbolic e-launch of the upgraded Advanced NICU. Parents shared emotional accounts of their children’s early struggles and triumphs, followed by memorable photo opportunities. The celebration concluded with the “Tiny Victories” Baby Certificate Distribution, where NICU graduates received certificates and families joined doctors for a group photograph.
Understanding Prematurity and Its Challenges
Prematurity refers to babies born before 37 weeks of gestation. Globally, one in every ten babies is born prematurely. Although medical advancements have significantly improved survival rates, premature birth still poses notable health risks.
According to Dr. Tanmesh Kumar Sahu, Consultant Neonatologist and NICU In-Charge, causes of premature birth include multiple pregnancies, maternal infections, chronic conditions such as hypertension or diabetes, and in some cases, unknown factors. He explained that premature infants may face complications such as breathing difficulties, feeding challenges, infections, and long-term developmental issues. Dr. Sahu emphasized that early detection, timely neonatal care, and continued parental involvement play a crucial role in improving outcomes. He added that such awareness initiatives by Medicover Hospitals are vital in educating families and supporting premature infants.
Reinforcing Medicover’s Commitment to Neonatal Care
Adding to the sentiment, Neeraj Lal, Regional Director for Maharashtra and Karnataka at Medicover Hospitals, stated that World Prematurity Day serves as a reminder of the extraordinary resilience of premature babies and the importance of strong medical and familial support systems. He reiterated Medicover’s commitment to delivering world-class neonatal services to ensure that every tiny fighter has the opportunity to thrive.
