An official from the Union Health Ministry has confirmed that the sixth round of the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-6) will be released shortly. The upcoming report is expected to provide crucial insights into India’s health indicators and trends.

Extensive Nationwide Coverage

As reported by The Hindu, NFHS-6 covered a massive sample of 6,79,238 households across all States and Union Territories. Authorities conducted the survey during 2023–24, ensuring wide representation and comprehensive data collection across diverse population groups.

Shift to Fully Digital Data Collection

Notably, NFHS-6 adopted a completely digital approach for data collection. Officials used computer-assisted personal interviewing (CAPI) software, which enabled real-time error detection, automated checks, and immediate data validation.

As a result, this transition has significantly improved the efficiency and accuracy of the data collection process compared to previous rounds.

Strengthened Monitoring and Validation

Moreover, authorities implemented rigorous field supervision and continuous monitoring throughout the data collection phase. They also applied multi-level scrutiny during data processing.

In addition, experts carried out extensive validation and review procedures to ensure the data remains accurate, consistent, and reliable.

Building on Previous Survey Rounds

For context, the fifth round of the NFHS took place between 2019 and 2021. Each successive round builds upon earlier findings, allowing policymakers to track progress and identify emerging health challenges.

Supporting Evidence-Based Policymaking

Importantly, the NFHS stands as one of the largest and most comprehensive sample surveys conducted in India. The survey generates high-quality data on health and related indicators.

Consequently, policymakers and programme managers rely on these insights to set benchmarks, evaluate ongoing initiatives, and design effective interventions aimed at improving the country’s health outcomes.
