The newly constructed super specialty block at Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital in New Delhi has remained non-operational for over a year. Although authorities completed the project with modern infrastructure and advanced medical equipment, patients still cannot access services from the facility.
Infrastructure Ready, But Power Supply Becomes a Roadblock
Officials ensured that the ₹400 crore facility was fully equipped and ready for use. However, despite physical completion, the absence of a stable electricity connection has prevented the block from becoming functional.
Bureaucratic Delays Stall Commissioning
Meanwhile, administrative and procedural delays in securing the power connection have significantly slowed down the commissioning process. Consequently, a major healthcare facility continues to remain unused, adding pressure on existing hospital infrastructure.
As per Economic Times, the ₹400 crore RML super specialty block has been waiting for an electricity connection for over a year, even though the building is fully constructed and equipped for operations.
Public Healthcare Investment Remains Underutilised
Furthermore, the delay has resulted in underutilisation of a major public investment. As a result, patients are unable to benefit from expanded healthcare capacity, while existing facilities continue to face heavy demand.
Eventually, once the power connection is fully operational, the hospital is expected to begin services in the new block. Until then, the facility remains ready in structure but inactive in function.
