Doctors at KIMS Saveera Hospital successfully performed a heart valve replacement on a 75-year-old patient without any surgical incision, offering him a renewed lease of life. Dr. Moode Sandeep, Senior Consultant Interventional Cardiologist, shared details of this landmark procedure.

Complex Condition Demands Advanced Approach
The patient, a resident of Anantapur district, presented with severe breathlessness and chest pain. Upon evaluation, the medical team identified a critically narrowed aortic valve, which restricted normal blood flow. Additionally, the patient’s aorta was slightly twisted and showed significant calcium deposits, further complicating the case.

Given the patient’s advanced age and high surgical risk, conventional open-heart surgery posed considerable challenges, including prolonged recovery. Therefore, the team opted for a safer, minimally invasive alternative.

Successful TAVR Procedure Using Advanced Technology
The team performed a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) using the advanced Meril Myval valve system. Notably, this marks the first procedure of its kind using this technology in the Rayalaseema region.

In this technique, doctors delivered a new valve through a catheter inserted via the femoral artery in the leg and positioned it within the diseased aortic valve. As a result, the procedure avoided surgical incisions entirely.

Faster Recovery and Better Outcomes
Because TAVR does not require open-heart surgery, it significantly reduces pain, blood loss, and hospital stay. Consequently, it offers faster recovery—particularly beneficial for elderly and high-risk patients.

In this case, the implanted valve is functioning well, and the patient was discharged within 48 to 72 hours, highlighting the effectiveness of the approach.

Expert Team Ensures Precision and Safety
Dr. Moode Sandeep led the procedure with support from cardiac anaesthesia specialists Dr. Avaneesh and Dr. Ravi Shankar. Imaging experts and the cath lab team also played a crucial role in ensuring precision and patient safety throughout the intervention.

Advancing Cardiac Care in Tier-II Cities
Traditionally, aortic valve replacement requires open-heart surgery involving higher risk, intensive care, and longer hospitalisation. However, TAVR enables a sutureless, incision-free procedure with rapid recovery.

With this achievement, KIMS Saveera Hospital has demonstrated its capability to deliver advanced cardiac care and cutting-edge minimally invasive procedures in a Tier-II city.
