Motherhood Hospital Kharghar, in collaboration with Navi Mumbai Association of Pediatrics, successfully hosted the Perinatology Subspecialty CME 2026 at The Regenza by Tunga. The day-long academic event brought together over 100 obstetricians, pediatricians, and neonatologists. Through this initiative, the organisers aimed to strengthen neonatal and perinatal care by fostering knowledge-sharing and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Comprehensive Scientific Programme Across the Perinatal Spectrum
As per the press release, the scientific sessions covered the entire perinatal continuum, beginning with antenatal diagnosis and extending to long-term neonatal outcomes. In particular, experts discussed the management of high-risk pregnancies, including optimal timing of delivery in severe fetal growth restriction (FGR) and the expanding role of fetal interventions.
Moreover, subspecialty sessions addressed complex conditions such as congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), critical congenital heart disease, and renal and neurological anomalies. As a result, participants gained deeper clinical insights into managing challenging perinatal cases.
Focus on Clinical Protocols and Practical Learning
Importantly, the conference emphasised the implementation of structured clinical protocols. Discussions highlighted the use of neuroprotection bundles in the NICU and addressed key considerations regarding the safety and timing of vaccinations in preterm infants.
In addition, the organisers prioritised hands-on learning. Dedicated workstations on early NICU interventions and post-discharge neurodevelopmental screening enabled participants to translate theoretical knowledge into real-world clinical practice.
Experts Stress Multidisciplinary Approach
Highlighting the need for coordinated care, Dr. Anish Pillai, Lead Consultant – Neonatology and Paediatrics, emphasised that improving neonatal outcomes requires strict adherence to neuroprotection protocols and a strong multidisciplinary approach. He noted that such CME platforms help bridge the gap between antenatal diagnosis and long-term postnatal outcomes.
Importance of Early Antenatal Diagnosis
Furthermore, Dr. Rupali Kadam, Facility Director, underscored the importance of early and accurate antenatal diagnosis. She explained that identifying conditions such as ventriculomegaly and hydronephrosis at an early stage allows clinicians to plan timely interventions and better prepare families for postnatal care.
Collaboration and Continuous Learning Take Centre Stage
Reinforcing the importance of collaboration, Dr. Mangayarkarshi Sinha, President of IAP Navi Mumbai, highlighted that partnerships like these enhance regional clinical capabilities. She added that the CME not only provided 2 MMC credit points but also equipped clinicians with specialised knowledge to address evolving challenges in perinatology.
Encouraging Academic Excellence and Research
The conference concluded with original research presentations and e-poster sessions, encouraging active academic participation among residents and fellows. Overall, the event maintained a strong focus on combining diagnostic precision with collaborative execution to improve outcomes for both mothers and newborns.
