Canon Medical Systems India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre. Under this partnership, the Institute will deploy Canon’s 640-slice CT system, Aquilion ONE / INSIGHT Edition, to advance research in cancer diagnostics.

Strengthening Commitment to Innovation

Canon Medical emphasized that this collaboration reflects its dedication to healthcare innovation in line with its ‘Made for Life’ philosophy. The Aquilion ONE / INSIGHT Edition integrates wide-area (16-cm) CT coverage with deep learning-based AI. This combination strengthens diagnostic accuracy and efficiency.

Leadership Perspectives

Koh Yamada, President and CEO of Canon Medical Systems India, expressed pride in the collaboration. He said, “At Canon, we are committed to improving patient care through innovative technology based on the ‘Made for Life’ philosophy. We are honoured by this great opportunity from Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre. It allows us to support healthcare in India.”

Dr. Sudhir Rawal, Medical Director & Director of Surgical Oncology at Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute, highlighted the institute’s focus on technological advancement. He stated, “As a top cancer research centre, we continuously invest in cutting-edge technology, and we look forward to using this collaboration to advance the cancer care paradigm in India.”

Dr. Sunil Kumar Puri, Director of Radiology & Interventional Oncology, added, “We are pleased and excited to become the first center in India to work with this system. We believe this innovative technology will significantly enhance cancer diagnosis and strengthen our confidence in the results.”

Expanding CT Capabilities with AI

As reported by Express Healthcare, the Aquilion ONE / INSIGHT Edition expands CT capabilities by integrating AI into a wide-area (16-cm) platform. It maximises both conventional and spectral CT functions, enabling greater flexibility in clinical applications. Key technologies include:

  • Precise IQ Engine (PIQE): A deep learning AI solution that generates sharper images for precise visualization of small anatomical structures. The 1024 matrix enables users to enlarge images four times compared to a 512 matrix without losing resolution.
  • Advanced intelligent Clear-IQ Engine (AiCE) with SilverBeam: This combination enables chest CT scans for lung cancer screening at significantly reduced radiation doses.
  • INSTINX Workflow Platform: The platform uses AI-assisted automation, such as scan planning and anatomical landmark detection. This streamlines workflow and makes high-quality scanning faster and more accessible.
